Behind every organization, technological as it may be, lies a treasure trove of data. In today’s world, data has become one of the most valuable and expensive resources. The loss or exposure of data can lead to dire consequences, jeopardizing not only the organization but also people’s lives. It was with this urgent need in mind that we invited students to join us in tackling one of society’s greatest challenges.

After long preparation, we proudly hosted our very first Hackathon, “The Ransomware Challenge.” The mission was clear: To develop an algorithm capable of detecting, identifying, and recovering from storage ransomware attacks in the most effective way possible.
The stakes were high, with the 1st Prize consisting of 10,000 NIS and an internship opportunity with personal mentorship from one of Toga’s CTOs. “The Ransomware Challenge” attracted 100 talented students from universities across Israel, along with 25 experienced mentors from our teams and a panel of 5 qualified judges.
25 teams embarked on this journey, exploring innovative approaches to detect and combat ransom attacks. After fierce competition, 7 teams emerged as finalists, with the top 3 earning the grand prizes. The winning teams were students from the engineering and CS faculties of TAU and the Technion!
Hosting students from Israel’s top universities was a remarkable experience. The atmosphere was brimming with creative energy and the promise of groundbreaking solutions. Witnessing the collaborative spirit among teams, some specifically formed for this challenge, was truly inspiring.
Following the great success of our first hackathon, we plan to make it an annual tradition. We look forward to seeing you next year!
